Educational ProgramImagine Harrisburg Pike's basic curricular approach and instructional delivery methods are defined by the benchmarks and indicators outlined by the state of Ohio in the Ohio Academic Content Standards in Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
The teachers at Imagine Harrisburg Pike pride themselves on the high quality of literacy instruction we give to the students. We are a balanced literacy school and therefore our instruction is delivered to the students with the concept of authentic reading and writing activities. We deliver systematic, sequential phonics instruction that is carried across curriculum and grade levels. Our students are becoming life-long readers, writers and communicators. The activities that engage our students in the literacy process include read aloud, shared reading, guided reading and independent reading. With these activities comes the intertwining of our writing processes. Students that are engaged in read aloud activities are seeing the teacher model real reading from authentic literature that is written by real writers. These students engage in discussion and higher level thinking skills. Students write daily. Some students engage in interactive writing where the teacher and class write letters, stories, or questions together. Students participate in independent reading and writing where the students practice all the skills that they have been taught. All of these activities are combined together to make a classroom that creates life-long reading and writing. The students at Imagine Harrisburg Pike are being assessed for their current level of performance and the progress they make throughout the school year. Our teachers work hard to ensure they are creating an environment of learning and cooperation in their classrooms. |
